Hosei University offered an Online Language buddy Project (Spring 2022).

Hosei University offered an online language buddy Project between students at overseas partner universities and students at Hosei University during March 7 to April 15, 2022. About 250 students (130 pairs) participated in the program in the sprign of 2022, and they enjoyed conversations in both English and Japanese with their buddy for six weeks or more.

In this project, students can arrange their own exchange times and how to proceed with the exchange with their buddy. Since any staff members do not attend the meetings, students can enjoy conversations with their buddy as casually as meeting a friend online.

  • Below are some voices from participants at partner universities of Hosei University.
  • – I was able to make a new friend and practice speaking Japanese outside of a classroom setting. (Boise State University)
  • – I gain a new friend. We are going to chat together also in the future. (University Bremen)
  • – It was fun making a new friend and also practising my Japanese skills. I enjoyed learning about Japanese culture and also sharing my own culture. (University of Leeds)
  • – There are lots of positive things I take away from this project; I made a friend and learned about Japan. We spoke of many things, thus improving our language skills and vocabulary on various topics. Practice is very helpful to improve language skills and this project provided just that. (Sciences Po Saint-Germain-en-Laye)
