ESOP

ESOP courses taught in English are divided into courses on Japanese society and courses on the Japanese language. English Medium Courses about Japan are available to regular HOSEI University students as well, which enables exchanges with Japanese students. Many classes are taught in a seminar-style format and feature small class sizes.

 

Marketing in Japan

It is a class by six lecturers with company experience. Students will learn actual marketing strategy and management in each of the six fields of industry as well as principles and concepts. This is an interactive course that focuses on recent developments in marketing with attention to actual processes and strategies in each industry. It aims to introduce the practical views and opinions of experienced players in the field of marketing.

Culture Tourism and J-Pop

Through tourists’ consumer behavior, we will consider the degree and penetration history of pop culture in Japan. The goal is to give an overview of Japanese pop culture to students. Recently the field of “contents tourism” has been attracting attention. In this course, we will address the development of domestic content tourism in Japan as a new type of tourism industry within regional economic development. Specifically, the course will focus on pop culture in Japan and the travel to background destinations by analyzing several specific examples.

Japanese Language Education (JLE)

Japanese language courses are divided into six levels, with students placed according to their placement test results. Beginner-level students study general reading and writing, listening, and conversation, and intermediate- and advanced-level students study grammar, honorific words and phrasings, academic Japanese, and so forth to prepare them for continued studies in Japanese higher education, employment in Japan and other such goals.

Regular Classes conducted in Japanese

Students with high-level Japanese language proficiency may be eligible to take any of the regular HOSEI University classes taught in Japanese. The University’s courses on specialized subjects in the humanities, social sciences, international relations, and others among 15 University faculties enable students to deepen their knowledge in their current fields of specialization and even challenge themselves to explore new academic fields. The permission of relevant instructors is required to take these courses.

English-based Degree Programs

The classes are conducted in English, and classes provide interdisciplinary education opportunities in fields such as arts and culture, English teaching, society, and international relations. Exchange students work together with English-based Degree Program students who are highly proficient in English as they pursue their studies. The permission of relevant instructors is also required to take these courses.
