Hosei University offered an Online Language buddy Project.

Hosei University offered an online language buddy Project between students at overseas partner universities and students at Hosei University in the fall of 2021. About 100 students (200 pairs) participated in the program in the fall of 2021, and they enjoyed conversations in both English and Japanese with their buddy for six weeks or more.

In this project, students can arrange their own exchange times and how to proceed with the exchange with their buddy. Since any staff members do not attend the meetings, students can enjoy conversations with their buddy as casually as meeting a friend online.

  • Below are some voices from participants at partner universities of Hosei University.
  • -I have learned a lot of new aspects about Japanese culture and history, the program inspires me to visit Japan one day if possible. (University of Sydney)
  • -It was interesting to see how japanese is used in a casual setting, as in class we only really get to use more formal japanese. (University of Leeds)
  • -My buddy was amazing ! We developed a really great friendship and talk often outside of our set exchange video sessions. It was really interesting to hear about life and culture in Japan vs. what I have experienced ! (Gustavus Adolphus College)

Hosei University is currently accepting applications for the spring of 2022 from Friday, 11 February to Thursday, 24 February. If you want to enjoy conversations both in English and Japanese with Hosei students and make Japanese friends, please apply from the project website below.
