Obligation of outgoing exchange students
You shall complete all procedures and preparations concerning the exchange program on your own responsibility.
You shall concentrate on study during the period of exchange program. You shall take at least 2 courses each semester, acquire these credits, and take procedures for accreditation at your faculty in HOSEI University.
In the case you fail to acquire the required number of credits, scholarship payments may need to be returned.
You shall report to the HOSEI University about learning and living status once a month during the period of exchange program.
You shall depart in time for an orientation at host university and return to Japan within the specified period after the program completes (within 2 weeks from the final class day of the course or the final examination date). You shall submit an annual study report and pass on information to outgoing students the following year. Extension of the period of the study is basically not allowed.
You shall make your study abroad period meaningful. The full amount of the scholarship must be returned if you return to Japan without permission during the program, or do not return to HOSEI University within a certain period. However, this does not apply to the cases of injury, illness, and other unavoidable reasons that are approved.
You shall purchase the overseas travel accident insurance designated by HOSEI University.
You shall actively participate in activities and events related to the PR of HOSEI University while studying abroad.
In order to ensure a safe student life while studying abroad, you shall collect information on a wide range of the country and region you wish to study in, including safety and education circumstances, before making the application.
Credit recognition
After returning to Japan, the credits acquired at the partner institution may be recognized as credits required for graduation at HOSEI University, after being deliberated at the faculty meeting, with a limitation of 30 to 60 credits. ※ Please check for details at your own faculty.
Enrollment
During the exchange program, exchange students’ enrollment status, school fee, and other conditions are treated as the same as a student at HOSEI University, and the period of the exchange program is included in the number of years required for graduation. Payment of the school fee at HOSEI University for the year of study abroad must be made by the prescribed deadline.
Others
Students who have passed the screening exam may still be disqualified if his/her academic performance is unsatisfactory or he/she engages in activities that are not deemed suitable for an exchange student.
The student exchange program may be cancelled if unforeseen circumstances are concerned due to changes in world affairs, or the host country becomes a dangerous region according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or due to reasons of the partner institution.
You shall improve the language skills before going overseas, by attending HOSEI University’s Exchange Students from Oversea Program (ESOP). Please refer to the ESOP Guidelines for details. (Distributed at the International Office)
If you have any pre-existing conditions or health concerns about studying abroad, be sure to describe the details in the `主な既往症 (Pre-existing Conditions)'' column when registering your application on the the “派遣・認定留学ポータルサイト(Portal Site)”.
Even if you pass the screening exam at HOSEI University, admission might not be granted at the discretion of the host university.
Some host countries require submission of proof of finances above a certain amount at the time of application or visa application. Gather information on visa procedures for your desired study destination country in advance.
Some host countries or institution require exchange students to purchase local health insurance. Even if that is the case, it is compulsory to purchase the overseas travel accident insurance designated by HOSEI University.
Students who have passed the screening exam must attend several orientations. The first orientation will be held on March 5 (Wed.), and the second orientation will be on March 21 (Fri.), 2025. There will be another orientation in early July as well.
Depending on the host partner institution, you may need to apply to the host institution immediately after the examination.
