After the Orientation for International Students, we will hold a “Guidance for Living in Japan Q&A Session”. Please check the following video in advance and ask questions on the day if you have any questions.

Renewal period of your stay for those who are living in Japan

Students who have paid the enrollment fee are eligible to apply for renewing the residence card to Hosei. Please apply by the URL below. Application can be accepted from 3 months prior to the expiration date.
*If you wish to renew your period of stay before enrolling, you will need to submit an "Admission letter".  Please check with the office of the faculty or graduate school you plan to enroll in and apply. After receiving the admission letter, please apply for an extension of your period of stay.

The Japanese government will reflect the payment status of social insurance, like National Health insurance, premiums in the residency examination.
If you fail to pay social insurance premiums, it is likely to be disadvantageous to your application for a residence permit in the future.
The payment slip will be sent to you by postal mail from your city office. Do not leave it or throw it away just because you do not understand it. If you are unsure, ask your city office and be sure to pay it.
The reduction system is available when your income in Japan was low in the previous year.

Documents required for a ‘Notification of the Accepting Organization’

If you attend another school in Japan and enter Hosei University immediately after graduation from that school.
(No notification is required if you have already submitted a notification at the time of
the graduation from your previous school.)
※Not required for those who have already applied for renewal period of your stay at Hosei.

  1. Notification of the Accepting Organization
If you enter Hosei University from another school
    NOTIFICATION OF THE ACCEPTING ORGANIZATION(PDF:163KB)
    ※Hosei University’s corporate number is 4010005002359.
  2. Residence card (a copy should be enclosed if the notification is submitted by mail)

For those who lives abroad and have not yet obtained “Student” status, or for those who are in Japan with a short-term visitor visa

All international students have to obtain “Student” status by applying a Certificate of Eligibility, COE and need to apply for a visa at Japanese Embassy/ Consulate general in your country.
For those who have not applied for the visa and wish to ask for the proxy application, please contact your faculty as soon as possible.
It will take about two months to issue COE. The delay of your application may causes you not arriving in Japan by the time of the entrance ceremony.
Please keep in your mind that all procedures regarding the residence card need plenty of time.

Leave of absence for the military service after your enrollment

You may take a leave of absence for your country’s military service even from right after your enrollment. If you have a plan to do so, notify Global Education Center, gso@hosei.ac.jp

After all procedures are completed and confirmed, the tuition fee of the first fall semester and an equivalent amount of registration fees will be paid as a scholarship.
