Exchange Students from Overseas Program (ESOP)

For Currently Enrolling ESOPs

National Health Insurance (Kokumin Kenko Hoken)

 Exchange students must enroll in “National Health Insurance” (Kokumin Kenko Hoken) after arrival, according to the Japanese Government Policy for foreigners who will stay over 90 days.
 ・Approximately 2,000 JPY per time in average.
 ・If you receive medical treatment anywhere in Japan, please be sure to take along Health Insurance Eligibility Certificate.
 You will need to pay only 30% of the medical costs incurred.

 The University Clinic can be a great choice.
 ・Ichigaya campus : 2nd floor of the Boissonade Tower
 ・Koganei campus : 4th floor of the Administration Building
 ・Tama campus : 1st floor of the All-purpose Building

Off-Campus

  Make sure to take along NHI Certificate when visiting.
  Please feel free to contact GEC Office if you need assistance on hospital research or reservation. Make sure to take along Health Insurance Eligibility Certificate when visiting.

Request for Consideration for Absence due to Infectious Diseases (ex. COVID-19, Influenza etc.)

 Please inform GEC Office by email with necessary information including the infectious diseases name, symptoms, onset date, last day of coming to campus, and test kit or medical certificate as proof.
  GEC Office will issue a document to help you request for professors' consideration after confirmation.
  FYI, the below is the List of Stipulated Infectious Diseases which should be prevented in university. (Japanese Only)

On-Campus Support for Disabilities

 The Global Education Center considers both physical and mental health management for international students is extremely important.
   ・DEI Center is established under the Hosei long-term Vision with spotlight on the implementation of Diversity.

Temporary Departure (For ESOPs)

 Please submit the Temporary Departure Form (link below) to inform GEC Office in-advance when you plan to travel by once leaving Japan.

  You will need to fill out and ED Card for Re-Entrants (Re-Entry form) and submit it at the airport. Forms can be found at the airport when you depart from Japan.
  Please do NOT return your Residence Card to the immigration officer.
  Be sure to check " 1. I'm leaving Japan temporarily and will return." on an ED card.

SHINKANSEN Discount

 A Certificate of Student Discount is required to have a SHINKANSEN Discount.
  Don't forget to bring your Student Card and trip schedule!

  ・For Undergraduate Students in Ichigaya Campus
  Instant Issuance Available.
  Please visit the Student Center, on ground floor of Sotobori Building in Ichigaya campus.

  ・For Graduate Students in Ichigaya Campus
  It takes 2 office days to issue.
  Please visit the Graduate Office Building in Ichigaya campus.

  ・For Undergraduate & Graduate Students in Koganei Campus
  Instant Issuance Available.
  Please find the Certificate Self-Issuance Machines setting in front of the Student Life Division on the second floor of the administration building in Koganei campus.
  If you can't receive one, please contact the Student Life Division staff.

  You can buy tickets at JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-madoguchi) with the cetificate.

Permission for Part-time

 ESOPs are strongly recommended to acquire it at main airports when first entering Japan.
  Otherwise, they should visit Regional Immigration Services Bureau and complete application procedures(free of charge).

Gym & Student Clubs

  ESOPs can use Gym(Training Room) in each campus. A brief guidance will be held when first visit.
  Please check the Campus Map for specific location.
  Student Clubs Brochure is distributed at the entrance of Student Center, on ground floor of Sotobori Building and GEC office.
  The Number of brochure is limited at GEC office.
  Kindly note that Join-in Procedures is required after you obtain the permission from the clubs representatives on your own.
