When you leave Japan temporarily

When international students temporarily return to their home country or leave Japan for travel etc., they must complete the following two procedures.
However, if you plan to leave Japan for more than three months or are about to graduate, the required procedures may differ. In such cases, please contact the Global Education Center(gso@hosei.ac.jp) immediately regarding your residence status.

*Check your current period of stay.
If your residence permit is about to expire or you will be unable to return to Japan before it expires, you must apply for an extension of your period of stay at the Immigration Bureau before leaving Japan. If you have already applied to the Immigration Bureau and are awaiting approval, you may return to Japan within two months after your current residence permit expires. However, you may receive requests from the Immigration Bureau to submit additional documents while you are abroad. Therefore, please ensure that you return to Japan with sufficient time to respond to such requests.
If you leave Japan and your residence permit expires before you submit your application, you will lose your residence status. In that case, you will need to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) in order to obtain a new “Student” residence permit.

　Please submit a temporary departure notification to Global Education Center through the link below once your travel dates are confirmed.

​​②Deemed re-entry application
・Please check the below boxes on the re-entry card (ED card) given to you at the airport before leaving the country.

□　1.I am leaving Japan temporarily and will return

Keep this card as you will need it when re-entering Japan.
Note : if your current period of stay expires within one year of your departure, your re-entry period will be limited to the expiration date of your residence permit.
