Procedures regarding residence status

(Chinese Nationality)Visiting Relatives/Acquaintances Visa

If a student wishes to invite his/her parents to Japan for a short period and their nationality is Chinese*1 other than one that has visa exemption arrangements with Japan, they will have to apply for visas for ‘visiting relatives/acquaintances’ at their local Japanese embassy or consulate through an accredited agency. The guarantor necessary for the visa application can be anyone living in Japan regardless of nationality as long as the consent from the person has been obtained. If a student has either of the following reasons to invite his/her parents to Japan and meets the requirements listed below, he/she may request a lecturer of Hosei University to be the guarantor.

*1: Visitors whose nationalities are other than Chinese do not need the guarantors if they spend their expenses for visiting Japan. If their local Japanese embassy or consulate asks them to have guarantors, please inform GSO at Global Education Center.

Reasons for inviting parents to Japan (must be A or B)

  • A.Participation in a university event (e.g., entrance/graduation ceremony), visit to the university (campus tour), or meeting with the student’s lecturer
  • B.Nursing care due to illness or childbirth (a medical certificate is required)

Requirements: The student undertakes to meet the following requirements.

  • There are no errors or false entries in the application form.
  • The student ensures to follow procedures involved in the visa application without omission at his/her own responsibility, and acknowledges that Hosei University will not be held responsible even if the visa application is not successful.
  • There are enough funds for a return trip to Japan by the visa applicants.
  • There are enough funds to cover the expenses during the applicants’ stay in Japan.
  • The applicants will observe the laws and regulations of Japan during their stay.
  • The applicants will return to their country immediately after the visit and before the expiration of their visas.

Note: Visas for ‘visiting relatives/acquaintances’ are valid for a stay of up to 90 days on the condition of not engaging in any revenue-generating activity. For a visit of more than 90 days, it is necessary to obtain a status of residence (e.g., dependent).
