Miwada Cross-Cultural Project
I had the opportunity to participate in a cultural exchange event with Miwada Girls' Junior High School on May 29, together with 7 other international students from Hosei University. It was a valuable experience to share our cultures with junior high school students and both sides inspired each other to continue learning foreign languages.
Sharing my Thai culture and experiences in Taiwan
I joined a small discussion group with 3 Japanese students. After introducing myself, I shared my background that I was born and raised in Thailand and later moved to Taiwan to pursue my bachelor's degree. We talked about Thai food and I was surprised that they were already familiar with many Thai dishes. I also asked them to recommend Japanese foods that I should try while living in Japan. Since we all enjoy sweets and desserts, I introduced them to Taiwanese bubble milk tea which is one of Taiwan's most famous things. I also shared my favorite Taiwanese milk tea brand with them. In addition, they recommended me to try Kakigori which is popular Japanese shaved ice dessert in this hot summer.

Learning new languages to explore the world
As we exchanged cultures and experiences, I noticed that the students tried their best to communicate with me in English. They actively shared their thoughts and opinions even when they struggled with vocabulary or grammar. Their efforts reminded me of my own experiences speaking English and learning Chinese and Japanese. Language barriers and cultural differences can sometimes make communication challenging but we can improve through practice and interaction.
This activity provided the students with an opportunity to strengthen their English skills and broaden their global perspectives. Their enthusiasm also motivated me to continue improving my own language abilities. I believe this experience encouraged them to continue learning English and inspired them to explore the world.
