Hosei University recently hosted a special educational event called the Miwada Girls’ Junior-High School Cross-Cultural Project. The purpose of this activity was to create an interactive environment where students from Miwada Girls’ Junior-High School could practice their English by communicating directly with international exchange students studying at Hosei University. The event became a wonderful opportunity for both groups to connect through language, curiosity, and cultural understanding.

During the event, the junior-high students interviewed international students in English, asking a wide range of questions. The conversations covered topics such as food, national traditions, hobbies, school life, and personal interests. Many students were eager to learn what everyday life is like in other countries and enjoyed comparing cultural similarities and differences. Some asked about favorite dishes or holidays, while others were curious about study habits or what inspired the university students to come to Japan.

After the interviews, the Miwada students shared what they had learned with the group, enthusiastically describing the interesting stories and ideas they heard. Their confidence and excitement created a positive and lively atmosphere throughout the event.

The international students also appreciated the chance to interact with the younger generation. They found the discussions refreshing and enjoyable, and many were impressed by the students’ efforts to communicate in English. Both sides discovered that language can be a bridge to mutual understanding and friendship.

The Miwada Girls’ Junior-High School Cross-Cultural Project was a great success. It offered valuable opportunities for language practice and cultural exchange, leaving a lasting impression on all participants. Events like this highlight the importance of communication and open-mindedness in education, reminding us how meaningful it is to learn from one another across cultures
