HOSEI vs. UTOKYO, a report

One of the things one can hear about Japan is the passion with which they live one of the top sports in the country, baseball. I must say that even though I have been in other sports matches throughout my life, this game and everything happening during the match make this one of the most unique ones.

In game

This game is part of the Big Six League, where six great Tokyo universities compete against each other. That same passion for baseball that we used to hear about is what we lived as we took our places to enjoy the match. After we stood up to listen to both HOSEI and Tokyo University’s songs, an amazing band spectacle began. While the band played and danced, cheerleaders were performing on stage; such was our amusement that we didn´t realize the game was already on. Catchy chants and a HOSEI home run that lit the stadium—all of it was a truly thrilling experience.

After game

It was a really close result, but victory slipped away at the last moment. Still, HOSEI’s team gave their best in every moment, and their effort was recognized by everyone in the stadium. What followed was something mesmerizing, for not only did both teams’ players recognize each other’s effort, but the flags were also used to show respect for the opposite team. At the end, I couldn’t help but ask when was the next HOSEI game.

As an exchange student in Japan, I had the unique opportunity to attend a thrilling baseball game between my school, Hosei University, and the renowned University of Tokyo (Toudai). The experience was vibrant and filled with unforgettable moments.

Game Highlights

The game was extremely tight, with both teams giving it all until the very last point. Hosei and Toudai were tied for most of the game, and that pushed the crowd to cheer its loudest. Each play brought gasps and cheers from the crowd, reflecting the intense rivalry and passion for baseball in Japan. The skill and determination displayed by the players were impressive, making it a captivating event to watch.

Weather and Preparation

Despite the great weather, the day was incredibly hot. I quickly noticed the importance of staying hydrated and protecting myself from the sun. I highly recommend future attendees to bring plenty of water, a hat, and sunscreen to make the most of their experience.

Cheerleading Spirit

Personally, the biggest highlight was the enthusiastic cheering team from both schools. Their unwavering support for the players created a dynamic environment. The synchronized chants and cheers not only energized the players but also engaged the crowd, making the game a true cultural experience. For anyone studying abroad in Japan, attending a baseball game is a must—it’s an incredible way to connect with local traditions and spirit! Make sure to bring all of your energy and loudest voice!
