I earned a doctorate in Learning, Design, and Technology from The Pennsylvania State University in 2012. After graduation, I learned an exciting opportunity to conduct research in Japan so I went for it. It was an experience of a lifetime that I am fortunate enough to have.
As a HIF fellow, I developed online materials for EFL preservice English teachers to cultivate their knowledge in the area of teaching English with technology, and examined their conceptual change in teaching English with technology via concept mapping technique after they completed the online materials. As teachers’ pedagogical beliefs are the foundation of their action, by understanding and helping preservice teachers to understand their conceptual changes regarding teaching English with technology, I hoped that it could help the preservice teachers to make informed decision when integrating technology into their practice.
I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Foreign Languages at the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology in Taiwan. At YunTech, I teach language skill courses such as pronunciation practice and intermediate writing, and content courses including curriculum design for TEFL and qualitative research methodology. My research interest centers on how technology can support language learning and teaching to create optimal learning experiences for learners. I have published my academic works in SSCI-index journals namely The Journal of Educational Research, International Journal of Science Education, and Computers & Education. Some of my past research projects include high school teachers’ mobile lesson planning, EFL primary school teachers’ cognition of pronunciation instruction, and the application of educational robots to facilitate EFL primary school students’ pronunciation learning.
